Kathleen O’Toole was appointed as Chief Inspector of the Garda Síochána Inspectorate in May, 2006. Kathleen was appointed to the Boston Police in 1979, and rose through the ranks of policing in Massachusetts. She served in field, investigative and administrative roles. She served as Chief of the Metropolitan District Commission Police, Lieutenant Colonel in the Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Secretary of Public Safety and was the first female Police Commissioner of Boston, Massachusetts. Kathleen was also a member on the Independent Commission on Policing in Northern Ireland, (The Patten Commission) which developed a new framework for policing and security in the North. Kathleen is a graduate of Boston College and New England School of Law. She was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1982.
