On Wednesday, March 24th, over 100 friends and patrons attended the second annual University of Limerick Chancellor's Concert. Organised by the UL Foundation, this year's fundraising event was in aid of student scholarships for the Blas summer school held annually at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance.

The evening began with a reception followed by an intimate black-tie dinner on campus hosted by UL Chancellor Peter Malone.  Afterwards, guests were treated to a sneak preview of the new Irish World Academy of Music and Dance building and attended the first ever concert in the building.  Performing at the concert, was singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Paul Brady, who played many of his old favourites, along with some new songs from his latest album, “Hooba Dooba”.  Music was also provided by Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, musician, composer and Professor of Music at UL and Director of the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, along with staff and students of the Academy.

Speaking at the event, Chancellor Peter Malone paid tribute to Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin and his team for their outstanding work and also to Paul Brady for his help in establishing the scholarships.  He also thanked those present for supporting the event.

The Paul Brady Blas Scholarship will provide €20,000 in funds over three years, providing 25 places for deserving musicians on the Blas programme where they will benefit from master classes and tuition from some of Ireland's most respected traditional musicians and dancers.
